89 is an informal “art salon” where Midway Studios residents get together to share their art.

Growing up in Ecuador close to nature, Miriam developed her imagination. She began drawing and painting early, choosing design after high school. Yet having a father physician persuaded her to switch to science. After earning a PhD in molecular genetics and microbiology she went on to become an instructor at Harvard University, and an assistant research professor at UMass, before working as a scientific editor for Elsevier.

biovisualization conference changed my career path. I imagined how I could integrate longstanding passions for art and science. I became obsessed with 3D animation, enrolling ultimately at Gnomon where I learned CG/VFX/Games in the latest technology from the best digital artists in the industry. Science visualization calls to all my passions; it incorporates creativity, art-making, analytical thinking, and research. I am able to translate complex scientific concepts into digestible powerful digital productions.

Miriam received numerous science and art grants and awards from the NIH, NSF, ALS Therapy Alliance, the Massachusetts Art Council, and a Community Supported Arts Award from the City of Cambridge. She participated in several juried and non-juried exhibits at Google, CCTV Cambridge, Cambridge Art Association, Lunder Art Center, and the Arsenal Centre for the Arts. A lifetime learner, she is currently enrolled in the RISD Natural Science Illustration program.
