89 is an informal “art salon” where Midway Studios residents get together to share their art.

Liliana Folta - Visual Artist

Born in Argentina - with Italian/Polish heritage. I left my country in times of military repression (1983); since then I have lived in Puerto Rico, Germany and across the United States.

From 2009 to 2015 I lived at Midway Artist Studios, Boston. I had the great opportunity to get involved in multicultural environments exhibiting my work, renewing my creativity, collaborating with the community and curating exhibitions at Midway Gallery. During this period I was a NEFA Fellow; participated in the Biennial of America in Denver, the International Biennial of Ceramics in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, among many other exhibitions and Fort Point Open Studios.

Living in Berlin from 2015 to 2019 gave me a different perspective on the art world. The state's responsibility for the arts is a necessity and open-minded. This led me to participate in several social and environmental projects, such as Berlin Art Week; Humboldt University for Berlin Science Week; Wedding Art District Open Studios; Argentinian Embassy and also as a Contemporary Talent Finalist at the François Schneider Foundation in France.

Art Statement

My experiences are in constant discoveries that lead me to keep investigating a new world of ideas to implement with a variety of media of interest.  The essence of my multidisciplinary artwork is related to personal experiences, socio-political and environmental issues, which is my current theme. I materialize these concepts in ceramic sculptures, paintings and mixed media installations.
